About DeNIST

If you DeNIST your documents, Epiq Discovery reduces the number of documents for review by excluding files from Review that are highly unlikely to have evidentiary value, such as known system, application, help, and font files. Eliminating these files can save valuable time and money during the Review phase.

NIST refers to the National Institute of Standards and Technology, the agency that maintains and continually vets the master list of known, traceable digital signatures or MD5 hash values for computer files. When DeNIST is enabled, Epiq Discovery compares the digital signatures of your files to the NIST master list. Examples of these files include: BIN, CAB, CHK, CLASS, COD, COM, DLL, DRV, INF, INI, JAVA, LIB, and SYS.

During Processing, when DeNIST is enabled and any file hash values match the NIST master list, the system adds DeNISTed to the file's Document State field and NIST File to the Processing Information field.

In Inspect, you can view DeNisted files and search for them using Document State and DeNisted. However, during promotion, the system excludes these files, preventing them from appearing in Review.

DeNIST is enabled by default. To disable DeNIST, refer to Modify deNIST.
